Balinese High Fashion
Beach in the morning, high fashion in the afternoon…cocktail at night. Where else but Bali?
The range of Balinese High fashion designers will impress and dress any fashionista. A selection of stylishly decorated boutiques showcase both international and local brands. Designers from Australia to the Middle East, from Europe to South America can all be found in Seminyak. My personal favorites of the big names out of Bali creating incredible elegant and wearable pieces are Paul Ropp (www.paulropp.com), Magali Pascal (www.magalipascal.com) and Lulu Yasmine (www.luluyasmine.com).
To shop in style as we did, get out of Kuta’s trashy fakes galore and get to Seminyak, where fashion trends are unique but current, innovative but traditional and exciting.
LULU was a very good example of Bali’s new style of fashion house. It’s an exclusive boutiques with arty chandeliers made from silver chains that showcases Luiza Chang’s own fashion label. LULU’s clothes are jaw-droopingly beautiful, nice to touch and as smart as they are feminine. Luiza is one of Indonesia’s up and coming fashion designers and is causing a stir in the fashion industry, drawing on her Brazilian, English and Chinese roots. New ideas incorporate prints on silk and beading on chiffon, which not only stand out in a crowd for their difference or smoothly blend with villas or luxury hotels elegant decors but also notable for their simple beauty and femininity. Modern boho chic elegance with island flair, these truly deluxe designs are made for the woman who has an eye for true designer clothing.
MAGALI PASCAL embodies French elegance with high-end design but yet easy-to-wear pieces. Inspired by the Parisian “Bourgeois Bohème” effortless chic spirit, the Magali Pascal line is the perfect shortcut to glamour from day to night. The collections combine luxurious silks, laces and organic fabrics with refined embellishments, reflecting an urban vintage mind with a French flair to create a feminine wardrobe. In 2002 after the launch of her first her first collection for Les Galeries Lafayette of Paris, Magali moved to Bali to create her own brand. She now divides her time between Bali, Paris and Sydney. In short, the new Bali trend for 2014 is a look that portrays effortless beauty and comfort, whether you are on the beach, villa or in a club. Light fabrics, maxi dresses, white and cream colours or opposite neon brights are all key factors when it comes to looking the part, teamed with silver jewellery and hand made look like thin strapped sandals to ensure you don’t look like you’re trying too hard.
