MUD BATH and SULFUR SPA for the Mind, Body & Beauty from New Zealand’s Hells Gate.

Not since the age when you “bake” mud pies have you associated mud with fun. You may think that fooling in dirt can’t offer any real benefits, but MUD BATH (and SULFUR SPA in my article) is a unique way to relax, detox and good for your beauty regime too.
For thousands of years, mud baths and hot springs have been as a cure-all for almost everything.
While some of these claims have never been proved, mud baths and hot springs do have anti-inflammatory properties that make them beneficial. They also contain many minerals that can soothe itchy, irritated skin. In fact, people with conditions, such as psoriasis have found relief from their ailments by taking a dip in those dirt-and-water concoctions.
MUD BATH don’t contain your everyday backyard soil or dirt. Modern spas typically use a soil composed of dry seaweed, dry volcanic ash, dry clay and other mineral-rich substances mixed with mineral or spring water. The mud is usually heated to about 100 degrees Fahrenheit and the heat will relax your muscles.

The mud comes from many sources and becouse dry mud mixtures can be transported from the places of origin, mad bath can be found now in high-end spas in many countries of the world.  Hot Springs or Sulfur Spa should be be experienced only in the area where hot spring are part of the local landscape. Each sulphur spring is unique in it’s composition – sulphur content differs from spring to spring. But the water must contain a minimum of one gram of sulphur per litre. Otherwise, it cannot be designated as a mineral spring.

New Zealand is that famous tourist destination where you can experience MUD BATH and SULFUR SPA all together. Keep reading to soak up more information on where to get the best mud bath and sulphur spa together.

If you’d like to experience something really unique and visiting New Zealand,  then let me share with you my personal experience of an amazing journey to Hell’s Gate Thermal Park’s Spa and MUD BATH, only available in Rotorua.

The MUD BATH and SULFUR SPA at Hells Gate, Rotorua completely redefines the Mud Bath and Spa Experience. Overlooking New Zealand’s spectacular geothermal scenery, you’ll love the Hells Gate Mud Bath and Spa Complex, which is a beautifully landscaped setting with native flora. But what you will love more – first hand experience of volcanic activity and see where your mud and sulfur for the spa treatments are coming from!

For more than 700 years, Rotorua Maori (Ngati Rangiteaorere tribe) have lived on this special site, treasured by Maori as a place of healing and revitalisation. The first Euopeans visited Hells Gate more than 150 years ago.

New Zealand is a country located on the Ring of Fire, where the earth is in continual turmoil. As you wander at Hell’s Gate Thermal Park, you will past erupting geysers, steaming fumaroles, mud pools and hot steaming thermal springs you will experience this first hand.

Following the footsteps of MAORI WARRIORS through the swirling clouds of steam you will see the MUD VOLCANO. It is so interesting to see boiling mud. Something different. It’s also cool to “hear” the sounds of erupted mud or vents.

See the geothermal activity of the Inferno and the Kakahi Falls, the largest hot waterfall in the Southern Hemisphere. Here, Maori warriors would bathe in the sulphurous waters to heal their wounds after battle and remove the “tapu” (sacredness or blood) of war.

After wandering through the valley you will get to experience a geothermal silky smooth mud bath, followed by a relaxing spa. The therapeutic properties of the mud and the sulphuric geothermal water are again unique to this region.

This is a spa experience which truly refreshes and revitalizes the mind and body. The treatment not only cleanses your skin leaving it clean and soft to touch but also increases blood circulation.

Sulfur is a mineral naturally occurring near hot springs and volcanic craters. Sulfur has been used medicinally since ancient times, and it is contained in every cell in your body. It is a component of three different amino acids (the building blocks that make up protein). Approximately 0.25 percent of your total body weight is sulfur. It is most concentrated in keratin, which gives you strong hair, nails, and skin. It is known as “nature’s beauty mineral” because your body needs it to manufacture collagen, which keeps your skin elastic and young-looking.

Sulfur is used primarily to ease the red, itchy rashes of conditions such as eczema and diaper rash. It also helps to protect your body against toxins in the environment. In addition, people with arthritis may find pain relief from taking a soothing bath in hot sulfur springs.

Sulphur usually is used in the form of thermal Sulphur spa. The beneficial, pain-killing and anti-inflammatory effects on the body are due to many factors. As with all thermal baths including Mud bath, the warmth of the water has an initial effect, and increased through the hydrogen sulphide. The muscles throughout the entire body relax and the body’s connective tissue is more flexible. The blood vessels widen, the pulse and metabolism increase. Blood flow to the skin increases, which leads to an improvement in the absorption of oxygen and minerals. Sulphide enters the blood through the skin, and where needed, it contributes to the healing process, inhibits some joint inflammation or helps in the reconstruction of articular cartilage.

The skin is the largest breathing human organ. Keeping the skin healthy promotes general health and well being. Taking a thermal bath promotes sweating that flushes the toxins away from the body. Mud baths draw out the toxins and impurities from the body, exfoliating and nourishing the skin.

In Rotorua, New  Zealand, world class places like “Polynesian Spa” offers mud bath massage followed after sulphur spa. It is claimed that the treatment has anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, analgesic, relaxing and revitalizing properties. With all of these benefits, there’s no reason to wait for your next spa trip to New Zealand.
